19 to 31 December
The formal part of our Ilfracombe courteous town initiative is drawing to a close . . . although we hope this will be just the start, not just for Ilfracombe and North Devon but for towns across the United Kingdom.
Thank you to all who are participating in this initiative . . . the businesses who have put themselves forward for recognition and demonstrated their courtesy . . . and all the members of public who have nominated courteous businesses.
Thank you for helping us to run this pilot scheme. We didn’t know how it was going to work out but your response has been tremendous. We have also learnt a lot and that will be very valuable in running future schemes.
We would have liked more time to get round to talk to businesses . . . meeting and presenting certificates and window stickers personally has been an illuminating experience: the community in Ilfracombe is its greatest asset.
Still time to get involved
As I write we have 81 recognised businesses but there are still many more who deserve recognition.
If you run or work in a business in Ilfracombe that wants to be recognised, you can do it by emailing evidence of your courteous behaviour – customer letters, online reviews, copies of your visitor book entries – to firstname.lastname@example.org
When I reported to the last executive meeting of the National Campaign for Courtesy, they were impressed that 40 or so businesses had been recognised. Now we have twice as many.
In January 2012 I will report the final results to the executive so Ilfracombe can be recognised as the UK’s first courteous town.
Thank you for making this initiative such a success.
Please keep on being courteous and nominating courteous businesses.
Let’s see how many courteous businesses we can recognise by the end of 2011.
