Today I’ve been walking round Ilfracombe distributing flyers introducing the courteous town initiative. Last week I started giving out flyers to shops in the High Street and Northfield Road. Today I did some more of the High Street plus shops, hotels and pubs along Wilder Road, the seafront promenade, St James’ Place and along the Quay.
Although I live in Ilfracombe, I have been in many businesses for the first time. What impresses is me is the scope and quality of many of these and also the polite reception I have been given. On the face of it, the courtesy initiative sounds warm and fluffy when you don’t know about the hard work and business processes behind it. Bearing that in mind, people have been very enthusiastic, which is gratifying. It was also great to hear that people had read our launch article in the North Devon Journal.
I wanted to give out as many flyers as I could personally to make contact with as many people as possible face-to-face. I hope it demonstrates that this initiative is not about numbers but about people.
It’s early days yet, but the response from businesses in Ilfracombe is encouraging.
